Accreditation means quality

It is difficult to assess the quality of your health care providers. One tool you can use is recognition by accrediting agencies who review quality on your behalf.

Wisconsin Heart and Vascular Institute is proud to be the only area physician group to earn national accreditation for all three of its diagnostic laboratories.

What is accreditation?

Laboratory accreditations are awarded by a national organization that has individual accrediting arms for each diagnostic specialty. It is a voluntary process. Participation demonstrates our commitment to the performance of quality diagnostic testing.

In the accreditation process, laboratories must submit documentation on every aspect of  daily operations. Applications submitted, including samples of diagnostic examinations performed, are reviewed by experts throughout the United States and Canada. Accreditation is granted only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with accreditation standards.

How accreditation assures ongoing quality

Accreditation demonstrates a commitment to quality care.
The purpose of the Intersocietal Commissions for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, Nuclear Laboratories and Vascular Laboratories (three separate organizations) is "to ensure high quality patient care and to promote health care by providing a mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation." Because accreditation is renewed every three years, a long-term commitment to quality and self-assessment is developed and maintained.

Wisconsin Heart and Vascular Institute’s accreditation helps us attract the best and brightest physicians and sonographers.
Talented professionals look for high-quality programs, and accreditation assures potential employees that a laboratory is dedicated to achieving the highest standards for patient care.

Accreditation also demonstrates accountability.
Health care organizations are held to very high levels of accountability, by peers and by the general public. Health insurance providers are beginning to implement policies requiring their provider facilities performing diagnostic procedures to be accredited. Laboratories attaining accreditation before it is required for reimbursement demonstrate a willingness to surpass current expectations.

National Heart and Stroke Program recognition

In addition to our laboratory accreditations, Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute has been awarded
Recognition by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association/
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Heart/Stroke Recognition Program. NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.

Additional quality recognitions

Wisconsin Heart and Vascular Institute has earned COLA lab accreditation and was instrumental in helping Meriter Hospital earn the area's only Chest Pain Center accreditation.
